About two weeks ago John Green posted this video
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nvWETi5KNF0 on the hard times in book publishing and how the story will survive. While I was I watching I got an idea. Now since it absolutely nothing to do with how to help out the market on text based stories I kept it to myself. That was until the idea decided to tackle me while I was sitting Lit class. We were talking about the idea of the puzzle and its role in the story and I couldn’t help but wonder, how awesome would a Nerdfighter based ARG be?
So for those of you who don’t know ARG stand for Alternate Reality Game and is an interactive narrative. I ask twitter how to describe it and my friend Michael said, “awesome!! It's like a mystery game that you do in the real world. How is it anything but awesome? ”
It’s a lot like the scavenger hunt only with charters and a plot. You get to interact with characters and work with them and the community to solve puzzles. Your interactions effect (affect?) what direction the plot takes. In fact, the scavenger hunt is actually what brought me from passively watching videos to actively commenting on ning. And since I feel like I’m doing such a poor job of explaining what an ARG is all about. Here’s the wiki link.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alternate_reality_game I actually have a few ideas for characters and I think writing puzzles could be a lot of fun. ARGs are fun but I think the Nerdfighter community could make it extra awesome.
So challenge accepted (mainly cause I don’t wana get punished like some people :p) and now I have to talk about my town. My town…is astonishingly boring. There are some cool places like Main Street, which is full of all these cute little shops. My favorite of which is called the Enchanted Attic. They sell a bunch of silly stuff like crystals and incense bottles. I love it dearly. There used to be a hookah bar that my friends would visit every once in awhile but they turned it into a club-ish sorta thing and is now full of suck. There’s also the Crisis Nursery not to far from there. It’s like an emergency daycare center. Long ago I had to go there for a school service project, but I show up every now and again and play with the kids. There’s apparently something about me that child look at me and think ‘juggle gym!’. The other thing we have are creeks. Exploring creeks was my main hobby when I was little. It’s still the best place to go and think.
My weekend is going to be so freak in full. I work today, Friday, Saturday and Sunday and I have two test to study for on Monday. That’s not even counting certain social things going on. School and work are seriously cutting into my internet time and it’s becoming a bummer. I better go and get some reading done.
