A man, a plan, a Lagrange point, Naboo.

So, Darths and Droids is awesome, but comes out slowly enough that I lose track of important plot points. I've been trying to get it all straight lately, and I'm writing this down so I won't lose track again. This is the story of the plans for the Peace Moon. (spoilers)

After the Trade Federation used the Lost Orb of Phantasmagoria to destroy Naboo's largest moon, Chancellor Palpatine commissioned the design of the Peace Moon. Put in the right place, it would restore the tidal cycle of Naboo to normal. It would also be equipped with a terrible weapon - a larger version of the weapon used to destroy the original Moon, a deterrent against any further threat to galactic peace.

Palpatine got the senate to fund the construction of the Peace Moon, but did not reveal the plans to incorporate a superlaser into the design.

Not long after the completion of the plans, Count Dooku found them, realized what they were, and stole the plans, hoping to prevent its construction. However, Chancellor Palpatine had at least one backup copy.

On Geonosis, Dooku insisted to Obi-Wan and the rest of the party that Palpatine was a madman and the Peace Moon was a weapon. Simultaneously, Nute Gunray of the Trade Federation made a new copy of the plans from Dooku's copy, and then removed the superlaser from Dooku's copy.

Aboard Count Dooku's flagship, the Invisible Hand, R2-D2 found Dooku's copy of the plans and saw that the Peace Moon was just an enormous rocky sphere.

In Chancellor Palpatine's office, Anakin Skywalker discovered the Chancelor's backup of the original plans. He also discovered that the Chancelor, based on the events of Yoda's Great Big Sith Hunt (the clone wars), feels that no one can be trusted with such a device and regrets designing it.
