I'm standing in my kitchen tonight, jacket still on, eating almonds and raisins out of the canister while eyeing all the other food I should be eating instead. A squash, eggs, polenta, quinoa, possibly pasta and some of those canned tomatoes with garlic and red pepper flake. G-ddamn, do I love the combination of garlic and red pepper flake with ( Read more... )

If I lived alone I would do the same thing. But I have a roommate/50s wife - she cooks, cleans, folds my laundry, buys the groceries, and we have separate beds. It's like the Dick Van Dyke Show over here.

Everyone should have a 50s wife.

Left to my own devices, that sounds like what I'd eat too. The extra mouths though require more than that & we have to attempt to be good role models. I hate dinner time... Unless I'm inspired, but that doesn't happen very often...

You know what? I'm exactly the same.

I'm capable (very capable) of making a healthy nutritious dinner out of almost nothing, and I *know* I should be cooking us healthy, wholesome food. We've both put weight on this year and we're both wanting to lose it, but I get home from university and I don't have the energy or inclination to do it. I do have weekends where I do nothing but cook, and stock the freezer up with home-made ready meals, but if they run out, it's usually pasta in some kind of sauce, or even worse, takeaway.

The new year will bring change. I treated myself to two new recipe books at the weekend, and I have plans to be a better missus and cook healthy things next year, oh yes!

Huge hugs and lots of love

Ya know, you really shouldn't keep your chocolate milk in your jacket. Makes it hard to wear and the milk might go bad. ;)

Teel has adopted the role of house husband and is excelling in the making home cooked meals department. Without his willingness to do this we would both likely survive on cold cereal and melted cheese quesadillas.
