(Otherwise known as the unique plight of being a goth in Cape Town during the Fifa Soccer World Cup [insert trademark])

Okay, I work in the CBD on the third floor of a building overlooking St George's Mall, which is a pedestrianised street in the inner city. Many tourists, okay?

Let me introduce vuvuzelas to those of you who are not Sethfrican. ( Read more... )

Geez. If you ever get out this way, remind me to show you footage of the famed "Texas-OU weekend" in Dallas. That's where two university football teams (American football, not the real stuff) get together for their annual rivalry challenge. The game itself is usually as dull as stale dogshit, but the streets the night before run with hot and cold running vomit for two days beforehand. And the Saturday night of the game, after it's over and they kick the drunks out of the stadium? I'm fairly certain George Romero came to town to film the first few minutes of Day of the Dead after the 1984 game.

I sympathise. We have the grim prospect of being forced to follow England's prospects in minute and brain-numbing detail, and suffering either the hideous crowing if they actually manage to win a game, or the overblown tragedy when if they lose. Either way it's Srs Bsns Indeed!

Considering the way people in general irk me (throat clearing, sniffing, high pitched laughter, etc.) I think if I had to listen to that sound all day like you do I would be certifiable right now. My ears are bleeding just thinking about it.
