Does anyone know how much time you need to have remaining on your passport to visit a european country

My passport has just 3 months left on it and I used it to travel to Czech republic. I imagine anywhere in the EU is fine up until it runs out.

Why not just get a new one? it only takes 2 weeks

My week of leave is in 2 weeks, but I dont have time between now and then to guarantee 100% that I will be able to sort it in time and get it back.
So Im a bit uncertain about booking a holiday... I might wait until May for the holiday away, and get my passport sorted before then :)
