Haven't posted here since november. If I wasn't writing after this event, I could as well close this blog. In the past days I presented my greatest birthday present ever: I took Katta to Amsterdam for a three days surprise trip!
The hardest part was keeping it a secret, while organizing my week away from work in the middle of my biggest projects. I booked the plane tickets and reserved the hotel way back in February. Since then, I had to hide all my bank account balances at my work desk at the company, keep all my e-mail accounts secret, and I regularly deleted the browser history and cache after any web browsing and searches about the city.
But when she decided to participate in a 3-day fashion show, the exact date of which we did not know at that moment, but was quite close to her birthday, I had to come out. So I lied that we're going to Vienna for a usual shopping and sight seeing, but as it's her birthday, we make it three days (we usually go in the morning and come back in the evening), so we can see the sights too, not only Mariahilfer strasse.
I ordered a taxi for 4:30 AM on Tuesday, as the plane was to leave at 7:10, and one should arrive two hours before to check in. I ordered the taxi with the special request that I only say "To the station please!", and the driver will know to take us to the airport. It worked fine, and Katta only became suspicious in the middle of Üllői út. Still, I could explain her that we are going to turn left at Nagyvárad tér, and Keleti station is there, where we take the train. When we got on the airport speedway at Határ út, she was quite sure where we're hading, but I could still convince her that it's going to be a budget plane to Vienna, which is the same price as a train, but much faster.
In the airport, before checking in, I gave her the "birthday present", an Amsterdam city guide, which made our destination clear. After that it was a beautiful holiday. We arrived to the city at 10:30, and spent three really awesome days together, walking the city, visiting museums, and of course taking a canal cruise. We left the city at 18:00 on Thursday to the airport, and we were in Budapest by 22:30.
It took me two more days to get the router working after being powered down for days, the bitch forgot all the settings. We are now online again, happily ever after, or something :)
