It was a Friday afternoon, and Neville was finally done with his classes for the week. It was refreshing to know that he wouldn't have to wake up early every morning with the notion that it was time to sit in class for hours upon hours ( Read more... )

The hall was indeed empty. This was seemingly because all of the students were already kicking in their weekend elsewhere on the castle grounds. So perhaps it was because the hall was so empty that the little black dog sniffling around the corner was so terribly noticeable. He had a brown face and paws and looked no older than a few months. A curious little fellow too.

Not far from him, Emiko was sitting against the wall with her knees drawn up and a sketch book sitting atop them. She was drawing like crazy- making the little figures dance all over her page- and barely realized that the pup had gotten away from her. It took the whole week begging to convincing her aunt to let her have him, at least for the weekend, so she was happy to let him roam about the hall as long as it was empty of both students and, more importantly, teachers ( ... )

Neville was quite surprised to see not only a person, but a puppy, in the hallway. He looked down at it when it came over to him and bent over, patting the head once or twice. Neville stood up straight again and immediately found a girl who seemed to be the owner.

Oh great, another battle, he thought to himself once he noticed the girl was a Slytherin.

"Uh, can you please just make sure your puppy doesn't run around in the hall?" Neville asked politely to the girl.

Emiko just about jumped out of her skin when Neville's voice crashed through her thoughts. Her pen went flying a ways and she clenched her paper so it crumbled a little bit, but immediately she loosened her girp and looked sadly at her crushed doodles.

Slowly her eyes rose to meet his and the little puppy-- that had followed Neville across the hall back to Emi-- jumped in her lap happily. She actually looked rather shocked, more so than annoyed or angry.

"Vlad," she said standing slowly. "That's his name and he's a very naughty puppy." This was directed more toward her dog.

Scratching behind her ear lightly she gathered her things in a tote that had been laying on the ground next to her. "I didn't expect anyone to be coming down this hall. Guess I hadn't picked well enough.."

She looked around to make sure no one was nearby. She'd really rather not be caught talking to the Head Boy. "Don't you have anything to do?"

"Yeah," Neville replied after watching the puppy for a second more. "I'm doing it now. I'm on duty." He shoved his hands into his pockets.
