My big Table Rose
Rose stood outside the cottage watching the sun set and the first few stars appear. A soft wind blew through the trees bring cooling relief to the end of a hot day. Above the treetops one very bright star winked and blinked at her cheerfully as if it wanted to play. Rose smiled, “Silly star,” she said, “I wish I could play with you.” With a sigh she picked up the bucket of water she been out side to get from the well and went inside. Her master would be up soon and would be hungry and looking for her.
Kit
Kit stood out side his home watching the night sky, not ready to go in yet. A brisk gust of wind ruffled his hair, a signal of the quickly approaching dawn. In the quiet aftermath of the wind he could hear the sound of his servant’s breath as she slept. Above the trees the multitude of stars were slowly disappearing as the sky grew brighter. Pushing himself to his limit he waited until there was only one very bright star still shining above the trees before going inside the cottage and to his bed to hide from the sun’s light.
Maggie
Maggie didn’t make a big deal about Christmas anymore. When she was a child, so long ago it had been a magical time of celebration during the cold days of winter. But over the centuries it had changed, becoming more about shopping and gifts than about the return of the Sun or even the birth of the Son. She didn’t mind if her servants celebrated and decorated for the season, as long as they took great care with glass and filigree star that Joseph had given her two hundred years ago for their fist Christmas together after she’d turned him.
Ceecee
Ceecee watched out the window of the train taking her and her two classmates west across the continent. The private compartment they shared was dark and Jane and Andrew were both asleep, like she was supposed to be. Instead she lay awake looking out at the night. One star showed brighter than the rest, and it seemed to following the train…no not the train, but her. Like a guardian angle promising to keep her safe during her journey to start a new life as a vampire’s servant. With a yawn she turned over in her bunk and went to sleep.
Simon
Simon sighed and put the quill back in its holder. The Cat and the Fiddle Inn was only breaking even. He had made the inn and the attached tavern his home and he really wanted it to make a profit. He went outside to stretch muscles cramped from doing accounting. Looking up he made a half hearted wish to the brightest star. “I need something to attract new customers.”
The next night the minstrel Thomas Singwell was waiting for him at the tavern with a letter from Maggie explaining that they had found some humans immune to their vampire bite.
Thomas
Thomas grumbled under his breath about inconsiderate vampires who don’t think that that their servants need to sleep. He’d been up early in the morning to take care of some of Simon’s personal business that could only be done during the day, then he’d entertained in the busy tavern until well into the night. He was already tired before he heard Simon’s voice in his head to tell him he was hungry and would meet him outside in a few minutes. Thomas watched the stars and tried not to yawn or yelp when Thomas bit into his neck to feed.
Joseph
Getting home in the small hours of the morning Joseph pressed the remote control to open the garage door. He could imagining that Shine appreciated the convince more than he did since in the past he’d made his servant’s come out and open it for him, regardless of the time. Something caught his eye in the night sky as he walked through the yard to the back door of the house. A bright star was moving, at first he thought it was a satellite but as he watched it moved too erratically. “Great, he thought, I’m a vampire seeing U.F.O.’s.”
Shine & Kat
Kat and Shine sat entwined on Kat’s bed watching as the sun set through his apartment window. “Star light, star bright, first star I see tonight. I wish I may I wish I might, have the wish I wish tonight.” Kat recited.
“What did you wish for?” Shine whispered to him before nibbling on his earlobe and sending small shivers down Kat’s spine.
“Can’t tell you, or it won’t come true.”
“Then I’ll just make my wish come true.” Shine said before pushing him back on the bed.
Latter Kat whispered, “wish all my wished could come true so quickly.”
