First Meeting and there is more about Joseph and Maggie in my lj.
There are places I’ll remember, all my life, though some have changed, this one has not. It’s still very much the way it was the night that changed my life so many years ago. The night I met her.
It’s still the town’s festival site, though the town around it is much bigger now. And they still hold a harvest festival here every year. The local farmers still compete for the best produce, cows, quilts, and jellies.
There are still artists selling their wares, of leather, ceramic, glass, or wood. But now there are also salesmen selling portable tractors, air conditioners, and computers.
Musicians still play music all day for dancing and entertainment, but now they use electronic amplifiers so that every one can hear them.
There are food venders of every kind now. Many more exotic tastes than we ever dreamed of in 1750.
One the things that hasn’t changed, and is special to me, are the wine merchants. They still set up tables and chairs and sell the best wine their vineyards have to offer.
I’m sitting at a table in a wine at a wine merchant’s stall revisiting a special moment of my life. This isn’t nostalgia; I don’t want to go back to the past. I like the bright electric lights that dispel the dark, they makes the shadows darker.
It’s starting to rain. The festival goers are all ducking for cover and the musicians on the stage are packing up their gear before it can get wet. Speakers dotted here and there started playing canned elevator music. No one paid it any attention.
“Damn, I wanted to dance.” The petulant remark comes from behind me. There she was with her arms crossed watching me. Her eyes twinkle with mischief and the frown on her face was replaced with a smile that lit up my night.
“Then sweet lady, your enchanted knight shall make sure you do.” I bowed deeply to her sweeping an imaginary hat from my head before I swept her off her feet twirled her out into the rain to dance to the crackly elevator music and humming electric light.
She shrieked with laughter as we waltzed around the deserted dance floor. “I’ve missed you so much, my enchanted knight.” Then she looked down at her soaked clothes and looked accusingly at me. “But aren’t you supposed to be rescuing me from the rain not dancing me in it?”
(The song that Joseph associates with Maggie.)
Beatles - In My Life Lyrics
(Lennon/McCartney)
There are places I'll remember
All my life though some have changed
Some forever not for better
Some have gone and some remain
All these places have their moments
With lovers and friends I still can recall
Some are dead and some are living
In my life I've loved them all
But of all these friends and lovers
There is no one compares with you
And these memories lose their meaning
When I think of love as something new
Though I know I'll never lose affection
For people and things that went before
I know I'll often stop and think about them
In my life I love you more
Though I know I'll never lose affection
For people and things that went before
I know I'll often stop and think about them
In my life I love you more
In my life I love you more
