‘I see the moon and the moon sees me.’ Isn’t there a childrens’ book that starts that way?

I see the moon; it’s white with gray shadows. It is big and round and riding high in the sky. Does it see me? Is it looking down on me from above the tree tops?

Did it see me come out here to the garden between the trees with my friend and lover? He’s beautiful to me. The moon can see his black hair and his tall slender body. Only I can see his blue eyes and his smile that promise to please.

It’s too bad that if the moon saw the man who was going to interrupt it couldn’t have given us some warning.

My lover has to wait. My master wants me. The moon would not be able to see from it’s view on high, the sadness in my lovers eyes. It can’t feel the troubled envy that he has to share me and that I can never be fully his. If my master can see it, he doesn’t care.

The moon can see my master standing in front of me. It can see its own light bouncing off of his sandy brown hair. It can see that he is taller and more muscular than me. Would it care that he is very handsome. The moon can see his hands on my shoulders; they are there for balance only. The moon can see him bend over me and puts his mouth on my neck. But the moon can not feel the sharp fangs as they press into my neck. It can not see how sharp they are the moment they break the skin and sink deep. I have felt this so many times before. It still hurts, but the moon will not see me flinch.

I can feel how warm his mouth is as he drinks the blood that flows out of the wounds, he doesn’t suck it out. Does the moon count the minutes it takes for the blood to stop its natural flow? He never takes enough to weaken me, just enough to stop his hunger. I heal very quickly; tomorrow the moon will not be able to see the wounds that were just made.

I hope the moon will not think badly of me. Does it understand that for each night I stand before my master that someone else gets to live another day? Would the moon care? It’s eternal; it doesn’t seem to care about what goes on under it.

I see the moon. I see my master’s back as he walks away from me, leaving me alone with my lover once again. I see my lover come to comfort me, but I think it will be me giving the comfort to him. Does the moon see me?
