Notes: I’ve always wondered what led up to the scene in the prompt for Purple. Now I know. Plus there is a little rewrite of purple to be done soon.
Shine was still eighteen, still young, very young in Joseph’s opinion Young men make stupid mistakes, and if they are smart they don’t make the same mistake twice. In the two hundred years that Joseph had been keeping a servant he hadn’t had one yet that hadn’t made some stupid mistake of some kind, it was only a mater of time.
He hadn’t had to wait long for Shine to mess up; it had taken only six months.
Shine hadn’t been home when Joseph awoke at sunset. Not unusual or forbidden, except that for that night he had told the boy to be there when he woke. If he had a legitimate reason for being late, like car trouble or other circumstances beyond his control, then there was no problem. But forgetting would get him punished. Joseph didn’t give many orders, but he expected them to be obeyed when he did.
Joseph used his blood bond with Shine to find the boy. When he touched the boys mind it made him dizzy. The boy was drunk… and in the middle of getting fucked, literally. Joseph quickly cut off the contact, sure that Shine hadn’t noticed his brief presence in his mind. There were no rules about drinking, though the boy was still underage by the government’s rule, and Joseph had no problem with the boy getting laid, but this was not the time for it.
When Shine returned home several hours later, Joseph was relieved and secretly pleased that the boy had taken a cab and not tried to drive. The boy was less drunk than he had been earlier, but he was far from sober. When he saw Joseph waiting for him he turned as white as a sheet. Joseph said nothing to him to him then, not a word. He turned his back on Shine and went to his own room and closed the door. Later, while peeping in on the boy’s thoughts, he felt Shine’s confusion and worry. Good, let him worry Joseph thought.
The next evening when Joseph awoke he found his servant on his knees in the middle of the living room waiting for him, his hands at his sides. He was shirtless and had his hair tied back, the perfect picture of a servant begging forgiveness.
Joseph had dressed in dark colors before leaving his room, with his dark eyes and dark hair and the frown he had on his face he was quite menacing. “Tell me what you did wrong,” he ordered in somber tones, standing only a few steps away from the dejected boy at his feet.
“I forgot your instruction to be here at sunset yesterday,” Shine answered, his voice steady. It sounded like he’d been practicing all day.
“Why?”
“I got drunk, Sir.” Shine said, both embarrassed and contrite.
“Is that an explanation or an excuse?” Joseph asked.
Shine didn’t answer; he bowed his head, for there was nothing he could say that would excuse his behavior. At that point Joseph backhanded him across the face, knocking the boy to the floor. Joseph waited until Shine climbed back up to his knees and prepared himself for another blow.
“At least you had the good sense to take a cab home and not endanger my property further by driving under the influence.” Joseph said coldly. “And though you were foolish enough to be fucking around with strangers, you at least remembered to use a condom.” He saw Shine’s face flush when he realized how Joseph could know that. Joseph didn’t need to say anything about it not happening again. Shine was a smart kid; he’d remember this lesson. Joseph turned and left the room, and then left the house, leaving Shine on the floor. He needed to feed, and the last part of Shine’s punishment was the knowledge that tonight he wasn’t worthy of providing for his master.
