I know offhand that Phantom Regiment allows rookies to audition for drum major. I also imagine that they can't be alone in that regard, particularly for someone with substantial field conducting experience.

I vote you shop around for places that will entertain an audition from you and go for it. I miss being a drum major more than I can possibly say, and unfortunately, opportunities to get on the box are tragically limited once age out of DCI and leave college. Do it while you still can.
