So I Had This Nightmare...

Anyway the point is, I woke up freaked out and wrote the beginning of this story. I don't know where it's going and I don't know that I want to know. I just want to let it happen if it's going to happen. I did read Un Lun Dun a little before I went to sleep tonight, but I've been having these nightmares for years, so it can't take complete credit. ( Read more... )

Her whole house was buzzing. It was the high-pitched buzzing that people often attribute to ‘a ringing in [their] ears’ particularly after an explosion or a rock concert. What was worse: she could suddenly only hear from her right ear. She stuck her pinky into her left and twisted it around several times in the hopes that it was simply clogged or dirty, but nothing helped, and the buzzing was making her very uneasy. She had a feeling she might need to run downstairs to the rest of the house to check on her mother and father and to see if the dog was all right. After all, dogs always know if something is going Wrong and if the dog is all right, then everything is all right. Right? Not Right. Wrong, in fact. But Jacquelyn never went downstairs to check on the dog or her parents. She convinced herself that perhaps it was just some mechanical device in her room, though she turned off each one in turn and listened carefully for the buzzing to change. It didn’t.
