Not actually a lot to write about this week. I'm in the middle of reading The Neutronium Alchemist, which has been a really enjoyable read so far. Its a thousand page book, though, so that's simply not going to happen overnight.

Wednesday night I had the character creation session for my new Star Wars game. I'm going to be playing with the Saga ( Read more... )

Sounds like an adaptation of the DND 4E rules.

Hmm. I've only had a chance to skim D&D 4E. It looked very much like an MMORPG, which turned me off a bit. I might have to give it another look. :)

Sadly only one print run of SotG was done, and it is sold out everywhere. Same with the KotOR campaign guide.

I have a copy - if you want something *specific*, email me at shawnfike AT hotmail DOT com, and I might be able to hook you up... ;)

BTW, Wizards is publishing a free 10-part campaign called Dawn of Defiance. Parts 1 thru 9 are complete, just waiting on number 10. I have put together some pretty nice (if I say so myself) screen crawls - you can see them here: http://www.mediafire.com/bombaatu/dod

I don't know if you have access to a Mac or not - if so, I highly recommend the Star Wars Title Sequence Generator at http://alienryderflex.com/crawl/. Unfortunately it's not available for the PC - mebby you can fix that? ;) The source code is available from this site.

Yeah. I had more luck finding the KotOR guide. Probably because SotG seems to add so much to the basic mechanics of the game that its about as needed as the main book. Once I figured out that copies of it for sale simply didn't exist, I turned to the magic of the internet and found it in PDF. If they ever do a second run, I'll pick up a copy. If they ever sell a digital copy of it, I'll buy a copy of that. For now, though, I'm set.

Sehr Gute. Do check out my screen crawls and the SWTSG, tho - I good screen crawl *really* sets the stage for a SW game. I'd be happy to bust out some custom ones for you if you like.

And there is always the waiting list at Crazy Egor's. It might take a year or two, but he can get out of print stuff, and he's just up the road in Hilton.

If you don't have his contact info, let me know. I've got his card.

I have not liked a single thing that was done with the SW RPG since it was taken away from west end games. Wizards always seemed to make galactic ship battles an after thought. In WeG it was so easy to have a running firefight on your way to the launch bay, hop in your ghtroc and start dodging turbo lasers and blasting tie fighters. wizards seemed to have made the entire game to revolve around the idea that jedi can cut through anything.

Damn it... Now I want to pull out my WEGs books and run SW

Heh. I love my WEG books. There hasn't been a single source on Star Wars that goes in as deep as some of the WEG books. It was my first RPG and will likely always be my favorite.

That said - I don't know that it necessarily handles starship combat any better. It dealt fairly well with starship level combat, simply because it boiled down to single person against single person. Capital ship combat, on the other hand, was a nightmare of rolling dice for dozens of turrets.

Jedi were also pretty powerful. Not as powerful as in Wizards - but I see that as more of a fact that the entire Star Wars franchise focuses more on the Jedi these days than on anything else. :/

Large scale capital ship battles were tedious but on smaller scale it was not that bad. Generally speaking I always saw large scale capital ship conflicts to be setting. Its like the trench run. If the trench run was a combat scene in a TT game I don't think any sane GM would have run every single turret from every single ship. Most of the battle is just there to set the tone for the fighters when they are making their runs.
