I wonder if it has to do with the parents who we never see.
Which just reminds me of the horrible, horrible letdown after the awesome, awesome buildup. Seriously, right after Brandon's original eps, oh look, here's this kid who looks exactly like him. Then later, oh look, here's that kid's brother. Oh look, his name is Reiji/Reggie. Oh look, he's only missing the Brave Symbol. Oh look, Brandon's coming back! Oh look, the preview has Paul screaming at him! Oh look, the preview asks "what is their connection?"
And then the ep airs and WHAT NO REIJI DID NOT JUST REFER TO HIM AS JINDAI-SAN NO GET BACK HERE YOU OWE US. Even the Japanese fanbase was dumbstruck. One site came up with a list of reasons you would call your father (given name)-san.
Anyway, I think it's a shame Paul isn't shown in the Galactic finale preview. I wanted him to encounter Cyrus and realize oh fuck that's what I'll turn into if I keep hating everything!
Haha, I'm glad I wasn't in speculation for this one from the sound of it. xDDDDD;
My guess is if Paul ever changes, it'll be towards the end of Dawn's arc when we have the big new arc character switch. If not, then who would the rival be? It sucks, but that fits the formula.
Then again, if we do go to Jhoto, I can't see him following us, unless he's REALLY lost his mind.
I dunno if meeting Cyrus would give him the comparison, so be honest. I see Paul as more of a "I can only depend on me and I've gotta be strong for myself or I'm a baby, and other people should act that way too" person than really somebody who thinks everything sucks and should be changed and/or destroyed. And vice versa, Cyrus, having the friendship Pokemon thing you noticed, may actually care about his pokemon MORE than Paul does. THAT'S a scary thought. xD
But then again, he pretty much wants to use Dialga as a tool to be in charge of his own destiny, so maybe you DO have a point there... hm.... Great, now I'm upset he wasn't in the preview. Thanks a lot. xD
i know why paul is so ticked with his brother. reji was going up against this trainer are one of the gym leaders or something and couldent defeat him. paul tried to defeat the trainer and failed too. ash tried later and succeeded. paul got all jealous and decided that not respecting his pokemon would make him stronger. ash got allmad and tried to teach him the right way by battling paul, but paul didnt catch on. but finaly in his last battle, paul changed: he thanked his one of his pokemon and told it it did well, then he was a jerk again. he has alot of things in common with Silver(remember him?) ad idk, maybe if they met... i'll just leave it at that.
