I'm totally against #3. I have no issue with moderated membership, as that's how tennisslash is set up, but either #1 or #2 is fine with me.

There's always a divide between RPF and general fandom, whether it's sports, movies, TV, etc. Many people are squicked by RPF - but I don't see a point in looking for stuff you know you don't like and making fun of it.

Your thoughts on the matter mirror my own exactly, especially w.r.t. rpf on the whole. It's not everyone's cup of tea, so if you know you're not going to like it, don't go looking.

Twitter drama. You know how some people are. :/

Which is why I can't say I miss it tbh

As for what I'd like to see happen: maybe lock posts/submissions a little after they are posted? But keep the challenge/discussion posts open?

That's possible. Something like 2 weeks would probably be long enough for interested parties to read.

I really, really don't want to postpone because I have a thing about letting people like this 'win,' but I will if that's what the majority wants.

And yeah, I'm thinking locking everything might be the best course of action for the moment. Volume 5 won't be released until the last week of November, so hopefully these people have found new amusements by then, but you never know, and I would feel pretty terrible if netcord or anything produced for netcord was used to make someone feel bad. :/

As much as I hate to say it, I think locking everything down is the best course of action. I don't really mind, but I know a lot of writers in this fandom that are using netcord to break into fandom.get more comfortable with fandom, and there are other writers that aren't as sure as I am about their work. I hate locking because this place has been one of the best places to go to learn about tennis rpf fandom, but I think it's a must.

Yeah, sadly, that's the feeling I'm getting as well. Maybe these people just got bored and won't even care next week, but I don't know that we can take that risk because if I saw it, I'm sure lots of people did. :/

I would say that (3) is an absolute last resort. Like you, I think postponing is letting them 'win'--and while it isn't, technically, a competition/war, there is nothing more guranteed to bring out my arsiness than backing me into a corner. I am more tempted to blatantly parade it under their noses rn which, I realise, is equally non-constructive ;)

Anyway. I am happy to go with whatever everyone feels most comfortable; either (1) or (2) or any combination thereof you feel would work best. I hate being made to feel like I am doing something sick/depraved, but I can see why people see it that way. Similarly, I don't much like being mocked, so I will probably keep everything of mine locked as soon as it's practical to do so--but I don't want people to feel that this is making netcord inaccessible, ugh.

For the record, I think you do a fabulous job with netcord, it is one (two) of the highlights of my year--and I hate that you have been put in a position that has made you question that. You are awesome, and so is netcord. Whatever happens ♥

While my last wish is to make netcord inaccessible (you, better than just about anyone, know how hard I've worked to make it accessible), I think there's really no option but to lock the fic posts, at least this volume. As _runningmascara pointed out, I wouldn't have to lock the sign-up/check-in posts. (And realistically speaking, I'm sure all these small-minded individuals will have found new ways to amuse themselves next week.)

I hope it doesn't disrupt netcord too much, but people need to feel comfortable to participate, and if that means a few more hoops, I guess that means a few more hoops.

Yeah, that's one of the most irksome things: they'll have moved onto something else in next to no time, and completely forget about it--while we're left looking round corners and feeling paranoid, ugh. Maybe just locking this issue (better to be safe than sorry), and hopefully by the time the next one comes around things'll be different.

If you decide to retrospectively lock all the chair_umpire stuff, I can recommend LJ Sec for that. It's a small programme that you enter your LJ account log-in to, and you can then bulk-amend all your entries from public to FO, or private, or any combination thereof, and will save you manually going in and amending each one. (Then, when it's blown over, you can use it to unlock them again. ;) )

Thanks. If I lock everything over there, even just temporarily, that will save me about ten metric tons of frustration.
