Wishing for artifacts

I've never wished for an artifact before. I've gotten them via #offer and a Naga dropped Grayswandir once, but that's it. I'm thinking it might be worth it to wish for an artifact soon, but not sure what. As a neutral barbarian, I already have Cleaver, will get the Heart of Ahriman from my quest and will hopefully manage to be crowned and get ( Read more... )

Oh yeah, that's right. I totally forgot about quest artifact limitations. I was thinking cross aligned would just zap me.

Frost Brand was one I was considering, though Magicbane seems like a good idea as well. Should probably wish for it before I get crowned (well, hoping I get crowned) to ensure I get it. (If I recall, as long as there's less than two artifacts in game you're guaranteed to get it. Cleaver is all that exists in game right now.)

I'm pretty sure barbs can at least get basic in long sword, so I'd go with Frost Brand. It's pretty much my go-to weapon for classes that can use it. Cleaver is really not that great.

Should also point out that it's your own call, but a lot of Nethack players consider it unsporting to wish for class artifacts. I know I did it on my first ascension, but avoided it ever since. The game rules allow it, so it's pretty much a conduct thing.

If you are going to, the Platinum Yendorian Express Card would probably be a good choice. But I would tend to go for a good weapon first.

There's a reason people call it the Eye of Awesome. It's really good.

Since you're neutral, neutral class Quest Artifacts are fine to wish for (they'll blast you, but you can pick them up).

You might also consider The Orb of Fate; depending on how you play your Barbarians, you might find the half damage useful.

Grayswandir really is that good for raw damage output. The artifact blast from Grayswandir isn't a big deal (just don't pick it up or wield it when you're near death). If you're going to wish for an artifact weapon, I see little reason to wish for another [unless it's Magicbane].
