I picked up my ancient game of Nethack (on dlvl 2) running a wizard with great starting equipment. Wand of Death, Ring of Polymorph Control, Magic Marker, few other useful things. I didn't start scrum, either. Just crazy luck of the draw

It's been a long time since I've played, but I don't think all the watchmen are mad at you at this point. Regarding the mines, can you not Elbereth your way out? I did a protection run a few times that way without any big problems. Though having a pet along helps a lot.

Regarding food, as long as you don't need to pray for anything else, you should be able to get by. People ascend without eating, so it's gotta be possible.

One idea might be to try zapping a shopkeeper with the wand of death, I'm not sure if this would get you in trouble with the watch, though.

I can't really Elbereth my way out as I don't have a very reliable way of writing, except for the magic marker and that seems like a waste since I can kill everything I come across individually, I just can't kill them in the numbers they're attacking me in.

As for food, I just came across a few lucky kills and managed to satiate myself on Gnome corpses. That problem is temporarily solved, at least.

The watchmen are definitely mad at me because one attacked me. I don't know if it's all of them or just that one. Wish I had a wand of polymorph. Polymorph him into something else and kill him, no penalties for murder.

It should be just that one. If you kill him, they'll all be mad -- you probably don't want to do that.

A scroll of taming will tame him, as will charm monster. Last time that happened to me I used a key to lock him in an empty room.

You can also *spoiler* steal something from a shopkeeper. That will anger all the watchmen, but when you pay the shopkeeper, all the watchmen (including your angry one) will be happy again. Kind of dangerous, though.

While you're at it, converting the minetown altar will anger the priest there; killing him will piss off the watchmen. Just so you know.

What if I took the Watchman to another level and killed him there? Would everyone in Minetown still be mad at me?
