Extra Life Weekend in Atlanta!!

Nov 09, 2009 12:01

Alright, now catching up on this past weekend!

Wednesday I got an invite from Jason to head up for their Extra Life event in Atlanta. He offered a place to crash Friday night and I gladly accepted.

So I left work a little early on Friday and took DJ Hero, my DS, and several games to play during the marathon. Got to Jason's around 8:20 or so. Chris was there, and they were both working on the InDisStick. Chris ordered us a Meat Lover's pizza from Johnny's which was awesome. I showed off DJ Hero to both of them and they both liked it, but didn't think it was worth the cost. Chris headed out a bit later, while Jason put the finishing touches on the InDisStick. Quite possibly the best stick they've made thus far. Amazing quality! We headed to bed around midnight.

We got up around 6am Saturday to get packed and ready to head out. We stopped at Dunkin' Donuts for breakfast with Chris and John (ChibiKnight) before heading over to Battle and Brew. We got there and were all set up and started the marathon right at about 8am. Throughout the day, I randomly played Street Fighter IV, Rock Band and Borderlands. Eventually Wilson and I headed to Papasito's for lunch which was great as always. We got back and a few more people were there. Travis and Ryan had arrived, Chris and his wife Serina (who made some 1up cupcakes for everyone for Extra Life). John's wife (Amy? Anita?) and Katherine and her daughter. Krystal stopped by for a bit as well. I chatted a lot with Katherine while we tried to find a game her daughter could enjoy. Finally I started up Flower for her, and that turned out to be a perfect choice! Her daughter ended up playing through the entire game over the next few hours! Definitely one of my highlights of the weekend!

Right before the cutoff at midnight I threw out a donation/bid for the InDisStick. Unfortunately I was sniped by Krakerjak right at the cutoff, hahaha. So congrats to him! :)

I was about ready to play Rock Band again when another small group came in. Jeff, John, Laura and Ham? They were all real cool and I chatted with them a bunch, and played Rock Band with them. When Ryan wanted to do guitar, I got to do some awesome vocal duets yet again (like a couple weeks back), this time with Laura! She's a really cool gal, and she loved my Sabotage beeps and she loved holding the mic up so I could sing Paramore falsetto while playing guitar, hahaha. After Rock Band we chatted for a while before her group headed out around 3:30 or so.

At that point, most everyone else had left. Wilson left probably around 5am. So John, Chris, and Jason started up Borderlands with Scott online. Lisa fell asleep, and I sat over by Chris playing more Kirby on DS. I nodded off once, but mostly stayed awake, watching them play up to like level 15-16 of Borderlands from the beginning over the 4 hours until right about 8am. Then we started packing up and shutting down. Got back to Jason's before 9am and I crashed again.

Woke up around 4pm or so, and was getting ready to head out. I got in touch with Laura from the night before and I eventually met up with her and her friends over at the Delkwood Grill. We drank and watched some football games while chatting and having fun with other people at the bar. Her friends kinda pooped out around 8, so they were gonna head back to John's place, so I figured I'd better head back home. Gave her a hug and Told her to keep in touch, and have a safe flight home in the morning.

I got home around 10:30 and probably hit the sack around midnight. Another awesome weekend in Atlanta. While hanging out with tons of like minded gamers is fun. This weekend was a much smaller setting, so it was nice to just spend time talking to people and making new friends and such. :)

I'm expecting one more trip to Atlanta this coming weekend, but probably just for the day. Then finally a break from traveling. They've all been well worth the trip though! :)
