whats the transition like moving from the u.s. to the netherlands?

How do you mean? Do you mean to ask if the Dutch hate Americans or something? Where are you moving to?

It's entirely possible to move without needing to know any of those things you mentioned above and it be pain-free. Currency works the same in all situations; it doesn't matter what type it is. The metric system is also not very difficult to figure out.

I know a lot of people who live and work in NL and barely speak a lick of Dutch. The major cities share English with Dutch as being the dominant language, and the majority of people are bilingual, if not tri. It's not something I'd recommend, though. It's rather disresptful, imo, to come to a country and refuse to learn their language.
