Amanda Palmer writes in her recent blog post, discussing the loss of her love of this game we call showbusiness and her wanting to meet Robert Smith:

Along with so much of the other music I listened to, I wandered out of the Church of Fandom in my early twenties and by the time I was in my mid-twenties The Dresden Dolls were in full touring mode. ( Read more... )

Have you read any Bill Drummond? He talks a lot about similar disillusionment with / need for distance from music, in order to be able to appreciate sound again. Heck, No Music Day is coming up!

There's a small number of artists who still have managed to capture me while listening to them, though. The love is there, it's just far away.

Lately they've been fluffy girl bands.

1. Imogen Heap - I met her, and realized she was a big geek. Her show's sold out for Nov 10th, but I'm still trying to get in there.

2. Amanda Palmer - Known her, met her, and I know many of the songs meanings because of the time I spent in Boston

3. Veda - They're from St. Louis, but they were sound checking one day and I was bringing a mixer into _The Pound_ to replace the broken one they had there. One of their songs made me nearly drop what was doing because it was so beautiful.

4. Halou - Enough said.

Right there with you.
It breaks my heart; I never listen to music for fun anymore, and haven't for years.

This explains why D. never listens to music (which I have wondered about for years). Also, makes me glad I did not go into the music biz...

this is why im glad i dont Really work in music or film. i like my role behind the curtain, and i like being able to sit in the audience or stand in front of the stage and still be into it. reading this post makes me feel really lucky to sorta kinda have it both ways. although, that sometimes ends up being neither all of this or all of that. but still, its enough for me. so i guess its working out...
