Unfortunately, I don't think that the people who need to see this will watch it.

Wow, that was powerful. I'm currently evaluating the possibility of needing to give up my cat (sob!), but there's no way I'd ever give her back to the Humane Society, since I'm afraid they'll have her put to sleep. I'm looking at a couple of people who love animals and have the room and time to devote to them, to take her. I've already asked one person, and we've decided to take my cat on visits to her house in the spring, to see how she gets along with the other animals (one dog, two cats, one frog, one, um, lizard-like thing whose name escapes me at the moment), to let her get used to the house and my friend, and just see if the whole thing will work out.

It makes me sick to think that I may not be able to keep her, but without a permanent home, I'm just afraid that the next year or so of my life is going to have too many changes to expect her to deal with. Like a child, pets need stability and security, and right now it's hard for me to give her that. I love her so much, though. :( Life hard.

Perhaps you can find someone who needs a nice companion pet, not overly elderly, but perhaps late 60s. Or perhaps you can contact a group home, like an assisted living community, that would want a pet.

I didn't do this to make folks feel guilty, I do think that there are legitimate circumstances in which people give up a pet that they truly did not feel like they would or should have to part with.

Good luck in finding a home - I know that it would break my heart to give up Crumpet and Meg.

That's heartbreaking. And unfortunately so true. :(

That made me cry, I will never understand why some people ever get a pet if they don't want to accept the responsibility. I think one of those dogs was the one from that "art work" at a gallery, in South America somewhere I think, that had a dog tied up as an exhibit with food and water just out of it's reach and it starved to death and people actually came to the Gallery to see it. I never ceased to be amazed and appalled at what the human race is capable of.
