A Rare Occurrence

I'd like to think I'm fairly well-read, and I follow scientific literature when I can (though admittedly, much of this is through second-hand filters).  So it's admittedly fairly rare when something sneaks up on me, and surprises me in that "wow, the future's actually here" sort of way ( Read more... )

That was interesting. And yes, the more interesting bits are the ones about 'bending' light. Guess we're not that far from near cloaking- i'm getting visions of some actual Men in Black(est black), or from floating Ray Ban sunglasses and a badge pulling you over and asking for your license and registration.

The practical uses are not great for the "superblack" but the idea of bending light around a target...that rocks!

Not only for the stealth possibilities, but think about it. You could reverse the technology and use it to make 3d "holograms" at will with little power output needed.
