There's this Japanese sushi restaurant that I go to sometimes that has all their artwork and photographs in frames constructed out of cardboard. It's actually very artistic and cool-looking, and the color matches the decor of the rest of the place. They somehow manage to make very interesting shapes and textures out of the cardboard, they use both sides (the flat side and the curvy inside, don't really know how to describe that part) to create contrast... even the lamp and its lampshade in the lobby seems to be constructed out of cardboard

i didn't see this entry until just now! i have been framing my pieces really simply and cheaply. i buy the small-size black metal binder clips and use them to clip together plexi+image+mat, then remove the shiny metal "handle" parts. it gets no points on creativity, but on cheapness, it nearly can't be beat.
if i wanted to be more creative, i might steal some throwaway scraps from any of the condo construction sites that have been going up around town and do something with them. in fact, i might try to do that next week (but just asking. i'm sure they'll look at me funny and say "go ahead!")
