I don't see how you can be complaining about having to see issues in black and white after reading this post.

It's ridiculous to come to a conclusion that our system is best when the only things you compare it to are impossibilities or failed states.
I admit the US has its selling points, but I can't believe political theory is pretty much done because communists fascists and anarchists lost.
Also, what exactly are you referring to when you say "the American political system." Thats not a stable signifier. I would argue it has changed quite a bit since 1776.
while our political system is screwed up, im glad we have what we have. im not saying we shouldnt make it any better, im just saying despite its flaws its pretty sweet.
I'm saying that "sweet" is a relative term, and when you compare to things like Hitler and Russia, of course we're going to come out on top.
And, I'm not convinced the only thing we need to do is make it better, I still think there's something else out there. Be it some form of socialism (I'm not explicitly advocating it, just using it as an example), whatever. The democratic nation-state isn't the final form of political evolution.
Lastly, clarifying "today's American political system" means the whole talk about it working since 1776 is silly. If we had the same system we had in 1776, it'd be a very different country. (and, I'm assuming you meant 1789, and are not referring to the articles of confederation)
yeah, if our country was the same as it was when the founding fathers established it... we wouldn't have all this social bullshit like high taxes, and social security, and welfare. socialism is not the answer. the government tossing you a check isn't going to help any one want to progress and succeed and do better and get up off their asses and work their way up in our capatilist society. people are ok living on their welfare, and THAT is NOT okay. so, im sorry... if you think this country needs to take a drastic turn (for the worst...) move TO EUROPE. go be socialist in places like poland where people are "happy" but everyone is poor. just f*ing get out of here if you think its so bad. im happy with jareds post beause, honestly, we have the best system...
If you would read his post, you'll see he disagrees with your insane and fanatical devotion to libertarianism as well.
Also, I was less referring to the economic changes in the past 200 some years, and more to the democratic and legal ones.
Lastly, this may be a struggle, but please read my post too. I very clearly said I'm not endorsing the European form of socialism. It was simply an example of recent political development.
