first of all, thank you for all the birthday wishes! :-) i felt loved.

second, starbucks starts people off at about 8.50 an hour now, plus tips. i forget what b and n is. i'd also say you could consider being a bank teller...the banks by me are usually hiring, and that's decent money. or art galleries, too. those kind of places usually don't care so much about experience, but you could learn a lot from either, and there's usually a fairly quick turnover rate, so most of them are always looking for new people, but you could stay there long as you liked. and also, pay attention to ushering jobs, there are a few that do pay, i promise. i wouldn't make that up. they're usually only minimum wage, but it's something extra for only a few hours a week.

good luck chica. when it stops being 2 degrees out and i get out of my winter funk i'll come visit, i promise.

I was going to suggest ushering, but somebody beat me to it. :) Openings for house staff at most of the major theaters are posted on Playbill.com -- I see them at least once every few weeks. Here's one to start. (It's a week and a half old, but you're totally qualified and I bet they're still looking.) Good luck!

Just wanted to let you know that I appreciate the advice. My only worry is that ushering starts before I would get out of work for my temp jobs. I did, however, apply to that one pretty much right after you commented....but alas! No calls for me. It was old though so maybe they were just full.
