I have a similar feeling of frustration when I browse one certain fanfic site for True Blood fic. Uncle Google is your friend, people!

If you want a read, there are various stories in Back to Middle Earth Month. Lots of good stuff :) And art, too!

I'll have to check that out next. I found an Eomer/Lothiriel that wasn't horrid and got myself to relax a little. So, immediate problem solved.

Given your brief summary above... apparently that is what kidz want to read these days quality wise. A sobering thought.

My theory: those are the tropes that people see the most of when they start reading fic, so that's what they decide to write "their way" when it's really often more of the same. Then they get bored with those same old tropes and instead of the risk of writing something different, they leave the sand box and a pile of Mary Sue behind.
