Why the dear sweet English make me laugh...reason # 9,728

As you all know, I come from north-ish western  Illinois (I could be in Cananda in 3 hours). The land of ice and snow. And sleet. And rain, and well...pretty much extreme everything, weather wise.

Now, here is why I chuckle. (Canadian friends will get the humor as well.)

There's one half of one half of a millimetre of snow on the ground (it's ( Read more... )

Ah but you see, there is hardly any point in equipping the country for snow because some winters we don't get any, and when we do it lasts for about...half a day I'd say, yes before it MELTS grrrr. The road I live down is too insignificant to get the gritters on, so the whole village has to bundle out and grit the entire mile long stretch by hand...so we definitely have a right to complain! Oh Hodsoll Street is a STUPID place to live!

Oh and SUV people...UGH! What the hell do they think they're for?? I have only met 2 families with Landrovers who I approved of, and that was because they (my uncles) owned farm, so needed them for driving round their vast orchards. If my little polo can cope with the black ice, then anything can!

And yes also I forgot to say I AGREE (partially) with you about whingy people - It usually snows on my birthday, yet I still drive 45 mins to the pub, while people who live 5 mins drive away refuse to stir out. PATHETIC OR WHAT.

xxxx

(ps hope you and the babies are doing grand. Must be getting close now...exciting stuff!)

Oh I get that-I really do. It's just so funny, because up here they get so melodramatic about it. Thye can't get the gritters into our estate either, and the ice is more of a pain than the snow.

Ans yes...SUV's...I didn't even need one in the wilds of Illinois and Iowa, so I don't see why people get them over here. It just makes me wonder which is bigger, thier ego or thier carbon footprint. :D

With their little cans of de-icer, and their flapping hands. Owen appreciates that it doesn't take much to get a snow day though. :D
