I know you know I've had to accept a lot about my family-- and maybe it's something you should consider doing. I don't want to live with regrets about my level of closeness with my dad, but at some point one just has to be satisfied with knowing one has done all one can. you need to figure out where that point is, or maybe you've already surpassed it.
one really important thing I've learned about this whole fiasco with my parents is that friends are family, too. the people who love you the most, the people who support you and sometimes challenge (not discourage) you, those people are your family. and the ones who are truly worth a damn will be around for life.
it's a tough process, letting go, but once you feel like you've exhausted your resources it's your only option. you'll find you have a lot more peace of mind, trust me.
