[Hope you don't mind me browsing your thoughts] While I can't speak for Arrietty, I know hearing something like this from Fox news is often hard to swallow. What bugs me about kids' movies like this is that they attempt to deliver a message with their brains turned completely off as if thinking doesn't matter. And really, it does end up being "indoctrination" just as any TV commercial directed at kids that's selling them candy and other garbage they don't really need. Here's a really nice review of The Lorax that I think hits all its points right on the head: http://thatguywiththeglasses.com/videolinks/team-nchick/nostalgia-chick/34545-the-lorax
*watches the Lorax review... wishes she had half of her life back* ...I loved the book AND that 1970's animated cartoon when I was young, but just those glimpses of the 3-D Lorax clips, just... Oh god... Just... what was that monstrosity just now? On a serious note, that was a good review on not only THAT, but yes, on a lot of things they pointed out (Showing VS Telling, the mindlessness of the movie's presentation, etc..)
Actually, what I was trying to say, was that Fox News as a whole for me is basically just rants and opinions, and the way Fox News always present themselves in their handling of 'news,' is why I just cannot take them seriously. Much as I agree that not only children's 'entertainment' is literally brainless nowadays (even anime too, sadly...), I just really found it a little surprising that they start ranting about an animated feature having some 'environmental agenda.' It's just like, 'Really? Really? You've just only start realizing this NOW? This has been going on for a long time... especially with Ghibli
