I told myself I'd work on one of my fics that has an actual plot, and try to actually finish something that has more than a thousand words.
But then I was sad, so I wrote this.
Title: Where Were You At Midnight?
Fandom: Criminal Minds/Watchmen
Characters: Reid
Rating: PG-13/FRT
Word Count: 200
Summary: Reid's memories of November 2, 1985.
Not many people Reid's age can answer the question, "Where were you when you found out about New York? Where were you at midnight?"
His childhood memories are dimmer than his adult memories, just like anyone else's, but he remembers November second, 1985 with more clarity than a typical four year old.
He was asleep when it happened, like most of the rest of the country. He woke up, and noticed he'd left his Ozymandias action figure on the floor the night before, when he'd been playing with it instead of sleeping. He picked it up, but his mother opened his bedroom door before he could hide it.
He had thought he'd get in trouble for staying up past his bedtime and for wasting his time with puerile toys, but his mother just gathered him into her arms and told him that something horrible had happened.
Reid has a better memory for visual things than audial. He can still recite every word of the newspaper articles about the extraterrestrial, but he's not sure what the newscasters said about it. He remembers the initial theories, the first estimated death toll and how it changed over the following week, but he doesn't remember what his father said to try to reassure him.
His clearest memory of that day is of his mother holding him closely and whispering, "I always knew they'd attack. I always knew."
Basically, what I'm saying here is that CM/Watchmen fic would be awesome, and people should write it. And why is it not Friday yet?
