Livejournal is changing the way communities are run. Each community has to have an individual "owner". They are giving each community's maintainers a few weeks to vote on who the owner should be. With 3/5 votes (the other two haven't voted. heh.) I guess I'll soon be the owner of the 6,000 user worldofwarcraft. Wonderful. D: Haha. Not that I really mind. I still ( Read more... )

There'll still be mods, though, so I don't expect it'll change much tbh.

I mean, I got spammed with "you have been made the owner of [random community I made for personal projects back when you had to make a new account for each community]" emails lately but I never did anything special with those that I didn't do with newer communities that you made through an existing account.

Yeah tcher and everyone else will still be a maintainer so nothing will really change. I'm not entirely sure what the point of having an owner is.

Well, communities before (and I assume worldofwarcraft fell into that time period since it's about as old as bowspirits) were created as seperate accounts, and then transmuted into a community, and you could still log into the community as if it were a proper personal journal. When logged into the community, if someone had added it to their friends page (possibly via the "add friend" tool and not the "watch community" tool) it'd be possible to read friends-only posts, whereas a maintainer/moderator wouldn't have that access.

The surest way to clear up any of those potential vulnerabilities would be to transition ALL communities to the newer system, where a community has an owner and is not a stand-alone entity. Though, keep in mind this is serious tinfoil hat territory-I don't know if such a vulnerability existed, and don't have any proof to substantiate my claim. It's just theory... but it makes sense to me, based on what I know of how communities on LJ have evolved over the years.

I voted for you :)

I've felt really bad about that comm actually; I got made a mod just as my health really went downhill, I didn't have time or energy to really do anything, and now it seems like I've been inactive so long that I don't feel comfortable stepping in.

So, uh, this is me putting my hand up saying if you need someone to be more active, I'm happy to help. :)

I think we all went through periods where we couldn't really pay attention to the community. There were times when I was only responding to specific complaints/requests that users sent to me personally and I wasn't reading the community at all. I wanted WoW out of my life during that period and I was trying to avoid all reminders of it. So don't worry about it. :)

I appreciate your voting for me! The community stays pretty quiet for the most part nowadays as the post volume has decreased. With lower volume I think it's ok for there to be more leeway in some of the other things we used to have to police, like jumping on people for large posts or images. I mostly try to keep an eye out for trolls and such, the lack of which I think is an important part of what makes that community unique from the other places you can go to discuss wow stuff. Any help you can provide is most certainly welcome and you should feel free to exercise your mod powers!

I totally wanted to make out with you (well, moreso, I guess) when you banned that blackheart666 guy.

Sweet. I will keep this in mind should I ever come visit and hang out with you. "Hey can I use your machine for a second? There's this troll on the wow community I have to ban..."

That guy had some paranoid delusions. He messaged me raving about the hypocrisy of those of us on this "side" going on and on about it, and how he should have known I would protect "my guys". I had absolutely no idea what he was talking about. From what I could tell when I went back and skimmed earlier comments of his, he had become obsessed with the whole argument of whether or not heroics were too hard. I had never expressed an opinion about that on the community either way, but when I banned him I guess he assumed I was on the "it's fine l2p" side of the argument.

I'm not sure what you're getting at?

Though I was internet pals with Neuroxin before I knew what b_h was or had even started playing WoW, which has only been a little over a year.
