I assume you know McLoughlin's The Helix and the Sword? Same kind of thing in the Asteroid Belt, with-- prematurely realistic in the early 80's-- reconstituted "Velociraptors" (Deinonychus of course) with feathers like eagles. John was an early " Modern Dino" visionary who lost interest or-- something. He still seems cheerful.

The bit where people get devoured by _deinonychus_ while out in Trojan orbit around Jupiter really drove home the point to me that eternal vigilance is required to combat the maniraptorian menace. Nowhere is safe. Not even space.
