It's okay, but they keep weaving in and out of harmony (which most of their older songs had in spades.) I don't hate it, but... meh I don't love it either. I'll check out the album, but I won't hold my breath.
What do you mean by older songs? Are you talking about the stuff during their initial run, before the 8495738945789347 breakups lol? That era is basically all I care about. I mean, I like Justus and the other record whose name has flown the nest for some reason but the one where Mike wasn't around in the 80s where they were in the swimming pool, but I'm all about that whole More of the Monkees/Headquarters vibe.
Of course, I would buy a record of Mike Nesmith chewing gum into a microphone for seven hours straight, so I'm all superly-duperly excited about this single, even with Micky Dolenz back there doing his usual seventeen point harmonies. That's part of the charm for me, wouldn't be a Monkees song without it. (I mean, I paid money to change my LJ username to a Nesmith song. That's... kinda batshit lol)
