So the Saddletramps exhibition bout was last night. It was a great game, I had a good time, both teams busted ass all night long. The crowd was small, which was really disappointing because we were hoping this game would make the league some money but the attendance was so low that I don't think we made what we were hoping to. Tip for no traction when jamming - take very quick, small steps, especially on crossovers... your wheels aren't on the ground long enough to slide then.
That's what I had to do at our last bout when my wheels were BALD. Too broke to buy more right now.
Also, go skate for a minute or two on rough concrete and it should wear in your wheels a bit.
And yeah - you can get attention as a blocker. You just have to give the crowd a reason to.
Does your league fight?

Our traveling team is the TRD Saddletramps and this is our second season, we had to play an expo bout because we couldn't get any other league in the country to actually play us. We're going to Texas next month and we slaughtered AZRD in July. We split our roster of 13 into two teams and played each other, Black on Tan.
I've been jamming for seven months now and am one of the two primary jammers on my regular season team. It's just that my wheels weren't broken in enough to skate on our bouting floor and there wasn't anything I could do. I skated laps around our venue (yes, in the parking lot) as part of my warmup.
The main point of the entry wasn't that I *need* attention as a blocker, I usually get it because the crowd recognizes me from my regular season team. It's just that I didn't even do well enough to warrant anyone mentioning it and I hate feeling like I've let my team down.

her being a jammer and being in the league for so long. jammers always the props but i think the bout showed a strong deep team is better than having a couple of great players (Julie and Doe for example) and I think that says great things about Derby as a Sport.
