I seem to be (poem)

Dec 21, 2006 22:58

Written for creative writing. It was an assignment, that's the nature of the poem 'I seem to be, but really I am...'

I seem to be (but really I am)

I seem to be, drifting in an open void
But really I am, rooted firmly to the ground

I seem to be, dreaming of far off places
But really I am, standing behind the checkout counter (at Safeway)

I seem to be, hoping for a better future
But really I am, watching my life go up in flames

I seem to be, looking at skies filled with rainbows
But really I am, closing my eyes to the harsh realities of this world

I seem to be, swaying in the white cap tides - drowning
But really I am, laying awake in bed - dreaming

I seem to be, this wonderful person
But really I am, keeping dark secrets locked up (that I don’t even know)

I seem to be, avoiding the truth
But really I am, just pretending.
