Supposed to be a drabble, but longer than aimed goal.
Title: Always Something
He sighed as he leaned against the counter in boredom, as his companion continued to squeal on about something in excitement talking to the shop keeper, who looked a little weary of her as well - though took it all in good humor.
How he wished he could approach certain situations, especially those surrounding her, like that.
However he could not and thus his current predicament. Dazed he glanced around the store, a place he - never in a million years though he would enter. Not that it was bad, but their interests conflicted so much he didn’t even think he would enjoy them in his life. How wrong he was.
It was pretty simple (the shop that is), or maybe it just seemed that way as it was filled with a million things he didn’t know about. The light blue walls had shadows cast on them from the light of the large wall of windows leading to the outside world. Amused he wiggled his fingers watching as the shadow him returned the action.
Urgh, it would take most likely take her forever (like usual) and he would be stuck here for eternity, why did he even like her anyways? Hm, there really wasn’t a certain reason, she was the quiet girl in one class but in others she had with her friends, or in the hall she was loud, funny and just shining with energy, she was literally glowing in his eyes. Granted when she was alone, quiet and shy there was this certain air around her that drew you in curiously, despite her being ignored by most.
She didn’t seem to care though and it bothered him, so much he dared to find out one day. As he thought, she didn’t really care for those who she wasn’t closely associated with, thus her quiet demeanor. It would take weeks, possibly months for an outsider to actually, truly befriend her. But once that happened, she never shut up.
Though he couldn’t banish her mouth shut forever, as he sometimes wished. As it had its other entertaining purposes as well, and when she stood in the right light, or would gaze out the window in longing the sun would highlight her features even more. Messy hair, glasses or whatever else - no matter how much she actually tried to hide, she would be beautiful no matter what.
It just drew him even more to her web of life.
No matter what he did, each minute spent with her he was always finding out something new, whether it was her taste of music or interesting food combinations she liked (and were usually repulsive) or one of her childhood secrets. There was always something that made him come back to her again and again.
Which was odd, as they were two very different people, they practically had nothing in common besides the fact that they both breathed air (and even that was different, as one of was a naturally heavy breather and the other light) But the developing chemistry behind them was undeniable.
Drawn from his thoughts as she tugged on his arm, purchases in hand a sympathetic smile on her face, as the light caught a hold of her face once more, she was absolutely stunning at some moments (unfortunately not all the time, but she was human after all) and he supposed that’s why he loved her.
“Ready to go?” he asked, covering his misery with a smile. Why were all men doomed to be dragged on their girlfriends shopping trips?
She nodded shyly, seeming to see past his mask as she stood on tip toes to place a chaste kiss on his lips. Instantly he forgave her and her cursed habits as well. As they walked hand in hand out the door, pausing he watched curiously as she turned back to the shop keeper a bright smile on her dimpled face
“I’ll come back tomorrow, alright?”
The worker nodded with a wave, and inwardly he groaned. There was always something.
