RL Has Me...But I'm Still Watching TV Shows

Jul 16, 2015 20:12

I thought I'd say hi and put my LJ back in use -- if only for a little while. RL has got me pretty much full time.

I've been watching a few shows this summer. Here's a list of some of them:

Stitchers - I just read that this was renewed for a second season. I've watched only 2 episodes (when Hulu gets them) so far. To tell you the truth, it's not ( Read more... )

Hey there! My summer watching only overlaps with yours for Under the Dome (getting tired of it) and Falling Skies (didn't know it had started again, and my tivo is not picking up all the eps!). I'm casually (eg while web surfing, haha) watching Extant, Tyrant, Aquarius (David Duchovny!), Zoo, Return to Amish (guilty pleasure), various silly reality shows like Naked and Afraid, which makes me so happy not to be on there.

More carefully watching True Detective, Odd Mom Out (so funny), Halt and Catch Fire (early computer biz, very cool show)

Quite carefully watching Amy Shumer Show on cable and Orange is the New Black and The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt on Netflix. My Netflix queue of their original shows is quite long at this point!

Hope you're doing well despite busy real life!

I thought I'd enjoy Halt and Catch Fire since I was around during the 80s with new computer tech, but I just couldn't get into it. I recognized the lead actor, Lee Pace, from the Hobbit movies, so I thought I'd watch him in this.

I started watching Extant, but couldn't get into it, either. :(

I wish I could watch Colin Farrell in True Detective, but I don't have access to HBO right now.

Is Zoo good? Is it fiction?

Yeah, to be honest Extant is building up unwatched on my Tivo.

Zoo is a drama on CBS Tuesday nights. It's about animals all over the world sort of going bonkers against humans, with shared intelligence. Sort of interesting and I like the main actor (no idea of his name!).

Are you watching Joe Mallozzi's Dark Matter? I'm enjoying it. Should've mentioned it earlier!

I haven't started watching Dark Matter. I'm on the fence about it, but may pick it up after its first season after it gets renewed. (Savage, I know, but there ya go. ;) )

Maybe I'll take a look at Zoo, though. A lot of my shows are on CBS, I've found.

I'm mainly still watching Falling Skies because I know it's the last season. It's been off the rails for a bit, but I hope they can wrap things up on a positive note for humanity and alien allies.

The Last Ship is kind of a guilty pleasure. Those ups and downs and frustrations are still there, but I'm encouraged that they seem to be able to set up new challenges instead of continuing with the same bad guys for too long. I think that's what got frustrating with Falling Skies; even when they did change things up, it all seemed to be more of the same.

I'm enjoying Humans, though I have to be careful online because the UK is a bit ahead of the US, so... SPOILERS. I'm intrigued by Hurt's character. He helped create synths, and he's desperate to keep an outdated, malfunctioning model because it has memories of his late wife that he himself can't always remember clearly. I could see how that could become an issue with "caretaker" models that require replacement. Even if they could transfer those memories to a new model, it's still not the ( ... )

I started watching Falling Skies because of Noah Wyle, but have gotten a kick of seeing "Major Davis" -- Colin Cunningham. Colin has brought it on in that show. I thought I had heard that he had auditioned for Daniel Jackson in SG-1, so I'm curious how he would have played that pivotal role. He seems to have the chops.

For Cold Justice to be interested in your home county must be exciting, but I'm sorry that there's a cold case in your county, you know?

I'm not sure how the format for the spin-off will be formatted. Isn't there a statute of limitations on rape? I had read somewhere that several states still have a mass archive of untested kits. It's a downright disgrace and shame that time will expire on some of these cases.

I'm bummed that Forever couldn't find a new home. I'm sure there will be fanfic writers continuing the adventure, though.

I didn't know Cunningham had auditioned for the role of Daniel Jackson, but IMDB does have it listed under trivia for him. The bit I remember was SG-1 was going to be a vehicle for Richard Dean Anderson, and so they originally wanted him to portray Jackson, but RDA didn't think it would work and Jack was a better fit for him.

It's nice to see Cunningham getting to do some interesting work. Always peeved me that his character on SG-1 was recurring for years yet never received a promotion. I also liked his recurring role in FlashpointThere are two cold cases in my home county. One is the shooting death of a police officer from my "work county", which is the controversial case I mentioned previously. The other is a woman who was found dead with her uterus removed, leading many to believe she was pregnant and whoever the father was didn't want to leave any DNA to trace back to him. So two cold cases in about as many years ( ... )

Colin Cunningham Auditioned for Daniel Jackson never_at_home July 23 2015, 01:22:13 UTC
I thought I had read or heard this somewhere, so I "googled" it to see what I could find, and here it is!

Aliens, reporters, soldiers, even the character of Dr. Daniel Jackson, you name it. Colin Cunningham auditioned for just about every part imaginable on Stargate SG-1. “I couldn’t get arrested on the show,” notes the actor. “I tried and I tried. I even wore glasses when I read for the Daniel role, but nothing seemed to work. Then, after almost two years, this part of Major Paul Davis came along. I went into the audition thinking, ‘OK, here goes nothing,’ and the next thing I knew they said, ‘OK, you’re hired.’ The rest as they say is history. Not long after getting the job I happened to talk to [executive producer] Michael Greenburg who told me, ‘After you came in for your very first audition we said, “We’ve got to find a part for this guy.” So we kept bringing you back in.’ When I landed the Davis role I thought, ‘Yes, I finally made it onboard!’”
