Fighting to save someone, or for something you believe in, doesn't make you a monster, even if you kill someone. It's just a sad fact of life that a lot of people would rather die than not fight.

A few of them. Even the lunatics trying to take over the world have soldiers who think that's a damn good idea, for some reason.

Sometimes, though, killing people in battle is better than the alternative of letting them continue doing what they're doing. Judging from what I know about what happened to Shiro Hawthorne, this was one of those cases.
