/did you know that, in World War I, soldiers would pee on their handkerchiefs and use them to cover their mouths as a defense against chlorine gas? The uric acid in urine reacted with the chlorine and neutralized the gas. This defense was ineffective against subsequent gas weapons like mustard gas.
