What really blows my mind is that the people objecting to permanent accounts are, by and large, offering exceptionally civil and well-reasoned arguments. This is particularly true on paidmembers, but a lot of those comments were also crossposted to news and lj_biz.

It's like, have some goddamn reading comprehension, eh? Hundreds of people with similar opinions speaking out does not automatically guarantee wank and/or whining. It's particularly entertaining (for *some* value of 'entertaining') when someone explicitly says their complaint isn't even about Strikethrough, it's about leadership / the TOS / comment notifications / site breakage / some other problem entirely, only to be met instantly with a cry or three of "boo hoo, go back to your pedo fanfiction!"

You have it soooo right. Perm Paid accounts are screw jobs. How do I know? Cause years ago I got a perm account. I figured I'd do the right thing and kick them some cash as I use the service.

Now I see that I no longer have any voice in what goes on at LJ, because it's not like they'll ever get another dime from me, I'm paid up for ever!!

The whole reason they're offering them now is to remove a bunch of people from the process. Once you've gone perm you lose the power of the purse strings! And as we can blatently see, that's the only power here that matters.
