Sean picked up his bird on Saturday. Since his gf, Amanda, has raised it since it was a baby (in the pet shop she works at) she came and spent the night Saturday night. She said it would take a while for her, the bird, to feel secure here. The owner of the pet shop felt her pelvis and determined that she was a girl. She had already been named

What kind of bird is it?

It's a black headed Caique. It's called the "clown" bird. It really has a fun personality. She likes to play with cat toys, she has a bed and swing and supposedly she can be trained to poop on a toilet paper roll. That way you just remove the roll and put in a new one. I made my default picture a Caique so you could see what she looks like.

Cool. Do they talk?

They have a very limited vocabulary. They said you may be able to teach them "hello" or a few other things but they speak really low so you have to be really listening. They normally mimic things like alarms, cell phone rings, etc. They do like to whistle and she makes a few other sounds that seem to let you know what kind of mood she's in. One of the reasons I let him get her was because Caiques are one of the quieter parrots.
