American Idol S10: Top 11, Part 2: Son of Top 11

The Judges

I'm actually really enjoying this season, which I find confusing because Simon was my key to the Idolverse, as it was, and when he announced last year that it was his last season, I really couldn't imagine enjoying any of the show without his commentary. Part of the way AI eased this for me is by removing Kara Dioguardi at the same time, ( Read more... )

Up to the "performers" section (where our opinions differ in many cases), I COMPLETELY AGREE. I expected to be bored right out of watching the show this year, without Simon. I <3 both JLo and Steven. (He's useless as a critic, but awesomely supportive and often nonsensical and fun. <3) The show is great this year!

(My favorites are Casey, Paul, Scotty, Pia, and James--I know, you're gagging. LOL Oh well, different strokes, right? :D)

No, not gagging at all!! I really don't like Paul, but I like all the other people to varying degrees - I just think Pia and Scotty are the only ones with real shots at actually winning. James may be top 3 material, too, and Casey is a mess right now, but he could pull it together. But yeah, I am not enjoying Paul. VoteForTheWorst loves him, though :P

Yeah, and I don't disagree with a word you said about Scotty, by the way. I think he's adorable and I'm nowhere near "teenage" so I can only imagine the response he's getting in that segment. Oh, except maybe about him being smug? (A minor point of difference.) I think he's only, as of this week really, found real confidence on the stage. I was impressed by how well he did last night.

(Also I'm not really a big country music fan--rarely listen to it on purpose--BUT I STILL LOVE HIM. LOL)

I don't see smug either - I see very confident, though, hee - but that's what people are saying about him as a criticism all over Idol message boards. It's a fine line between confident and smug to a lot of people so I think that he is coming across that way for a lot of people, although that doesn't mitigate my enjoyment of his performances.

I'm a HUGE old school Hank Williams kinda country fan (as well as modern country - I like artists in most genres of music, really) so I'm loving Scotty's singing! It's like I said in my post. He does one thing, but he does it REALLY well. Contrasted with, say, Haley and Stefano, who do 293742342 things competently at best. That's a thing Scotty has going for him - his fanbase is rapidly consolidating from what I can tell. I really do think this is his competition to lose!

My guess is the top 3 will be Pia, Scotty, and James.

I would LOVE to see Casey booted tonight just on account of showing up to see Jimmy and Rodney looking completely shlubby and ungroomed, so much so that Rodney Jerkins had to tell him to shave. CASEY, YOU'RE NOT SO SPECIAL OF A SNOWFLAKE THAT WHAT YOU LOOK LIKE DOESN'T MATTER. But he's a mediocre singer, so I'll be watching him go bye-bye with relish in a couple weeks when it's clear to everyone that the emperor has no clothes.

Unlike you, I miss Simon, or at least having a judge like Simon, on the panel. There's nothing at stake when every judge is telling the contestants how beautiful and wonderful they are each week. IT'S KIND OF LIKE ONE TREE HILL WITH NO DAN SCOTT.

RIGHT? He looked like he hadn't bathed in days and hadn't changed clothes in a week. That isn't personal style, which of course he shouldn't change. That's poor hygiene and rude. And it speaks of entitlement that he wouldn't even groom himself before meeting with 2 of the biggest names in the entire industry he supposedly wants to be a part of. I agree with you that he's not a special snowflake and he's not talented enough that his appearance is beside the point.

I do miss Simon! I think he would've told Stefano to pack his bags and go home. I miss his NOT GOOD ENOUGH, SORRYs. I just find myself shouting them at the TV in his absence :)

I was chatting with my mom today and we were commiserating over the lack of Simon-isms in this season, ha!

My mom and I think that Stefano needs to recruit some friends and start a boy band. He could totally be the group's Howie Dorough! ;D

ROFL I saw that in your write-up for the week and nearly fell out laughing. Except he's too much of an attention-monger to be content to be the Howie. He totally imagines himself to be the next Justin Timberlake, and he is so not. I don't know, I don't like my pop singers to come with crippling neediness. Get a therapist or something, Stefano!

so i can't actually watched this once the show cuts down to an hour because i watch survivor on wednesday at 8. so that's why i had to google search half these contestants so i could put faces to names. but, to be honest, i don't even like anyone :( how sad.

woman, you need a dvr! it will change your life (probably for the worse, since it'll make you watch more TV, but still!!)

honestly for me it's less important that i like individual singers and more important that i enjoy the hour or 2 of television of the show, so, like, a really good singer is not necessarily the best AI contestant, if that makes sense!!

i have been campaigning for a dvr in my house since high school when tivo was all the rage. my dad often entertains the idea of one but my mom is all "oh we have a vcr and hulu!" but i honestly can't be bothered to set up the vcr or check for things online.

my dad was like that for ages too, but then he caved and got it installed when comcast had a special and it was only like $8 extra a month, and now he's like ZOMG THIS IS THE BEST INVENTION OF THE 21ST CENTURY.

I totally never thought I'd say this, but J-Lo is really saving the show for me right now.

I saw them ages and ages ago when my mom took me to concerts and shows and things all the time! Once it was just BeBe and CeCe but it counts. *g*

LOL SO FUNNY. i'm kind of glad they don't air all the different international idol shows here in the states (or if they do, please no one tell me how to watch them) because i'm so nuts about this show that i'd never leave my house and try to watch them all.
