I think that, for someone who is committed to living modestly, extra money is for all the the things which are not mentioned on your list. Things like getting into a car accident, being sued, having surgery, etc. To me the most appealing thing about having some money in the bank is that feeling of safety you get from knowing that if something bad happens to you, you will for sure be able to deal with it instead of having to think, "Oh, shit, how do I deal with this?"

What the hell else would you do with it? Buy extravagant things that are completely unnecessary? Not for me, and hopefully not for my spouse.

That just launched a fleet of roflcopters.

it was badly phrased, but i meant that my spouse wouldn't want to buy buying extravagant things for herself. It was really directed to buying things in general.

but yeah, having some money saved up is always good, and it is what i always do. But there is a point where you just stand back and say "why would i really need more than this?"
