So long, US Boys, a pity you don't stay a little longer....
If you think the Curse of the Bambino was bad, Donovan's curse was even worse. Or rather, still is. Three games, three starts, three no-shows. I didn't see one bit of Donovan at all, and I was really, really hoping for anything. It really must be a curse, whenever he's NOT in Germany, he's doing just fine, thank you very much, but on German ground? He's on the roster, you see him on the field before the game, but as soon as there's a kick-off? He's nowhere near to be found during any piece of action, and it's not for lack of goodwill from anyone.
Anyhow, it was a desperate game which, as always, didn't find any real scoring. No creativity, no luck, a lot of trying but no success ultimately. I'm sorry to see you leave, guys, but it was grand having you. Good to see that soccer's no longer *that* exotic in the US and that at least for the initial round of the World Cup, y'all are good enough. Time will hopefully improve that performance. So here's looking forward to South Africa in four, alright?
As to the OTHER game this afternoon. I'm sorry, did anyone forget to tell the Czechs that they'd have to win that game? I mean, seriously, you are trailing by one goal. You are one player short due to stupidity and a yellow-red ejection. AND STILL YOU REMAIN IN YOUR OWN HALF INSTEAD OF THROWING EVERYTHING YOU HAVE FORWARD TO SCORE???
Fine, be that way. Go home if you don't want to play ball. But don't complain if they put the stick up somewhere the sun doesn't shine afterwards when the other guys come to bat. No stellar performance by Italy, but none was needed against the Czech Republic anyway.... I just hope the other two games tonight will be a bit better....
