Some simple ground rules about politics

1) I am a small-l libertarian. I oppose most of the policies of both major parties, and I tend to be personally conservative and politically laissez-faire. I think, in short, that the Republicans are hypocrites and the Democrats are criminals. Or is that the other way around? People who espouse the specific policies of one or the other major ( Read more... )

I *always* miss all the drama. Hmpfh! I, frankly, thought everyone was quite civil and polite. It was a great read, after the fact.

Seconded. Some people got no sense.

Well, people have a right to have no sense, and they have a right to be illogical, and they have a right to stomp off crying and calling me mean. But I'm not gonna let that shit just ride on this journal. If you wanna be that way, expect to be labeled that way. Spades are spades here, and their primary use is to shovel shit.

See, I'm more inclined to hit people with 'em.

Wow-- that chick freaked the hell out on you. I hate when that happens. You were completely calm, sensible and non-aggressive and she just.....freaked out!
Sorry!
The world is full of 'em.

I hope that, while I may hold some irrational and unprovable opinions, I will never insist on having them taken seriously without either (1) being able to defend them, or (2) cheerfully admitting that they're irrational and indefensible.

I'm trying to figure out a good calendar date when we can go shoot, BTW. I figure Saturdays are best for me so it's a matter of working around some other stuff.

AKA all the reasons you are on my friends list despite our disagreement on so many issues.

I like to disagree with you (although I do hold out hope that you'll see the light! :)) because I know we can compare views, agree to disagree, and learn from each other even if we're not in lockstep on everything. I value that.

Exactly!

I can't say that I blame you for holding out hope; I know that I'm young and foolish, and since my views have already changed with my different life experiences, I'm sure they'll continue to do so.

What I see happening with thinkers like you is that we may continue to disagree on social issues, but we move towards agreement on what should be done about them, i.e. whether it's any of the government's business. For example, being opposed to government welfare programs funded by the income tax does not mean that I am in favor of poverty, as our recent interlocutor chose to see it. It simply means that I don't believe that government welfare programs are the solution to poverty.

The arguement was something. It's interesting how the very basic question never gets answered by liberals. "At what point does someone's need permit them to confiscate my posessions."

You did fine. I hope that your business is likewise doing fine.

The business is doing OK - depends on which day you ask me! :) Thanks for asking. I am following your sojourn with interest, also, although I rarely comment. How the small business owners I know handle the "roller coaster" is always of interest to me.

I have given up expecting the nanny-state addicts to be able to explain their position. I do hold out hope that eventually one of them will try rather than resorting to this kind of thing, but I no longer expect it.
