Out of curiosity, I grabbed the nearest book (Edward Gibbon's Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire, turned to page 123, and...

"The subordination of the best scientific evidence to ideologically driven beliefs is yet another strategy for controlling policy by distorting and suppressing the best available information."

Al Gore, The Assault On Reason (The Penguin Press, New York: 2007)

This was part of a larger criticism of the Bush administration and their supporters for their positions on scientific subjects such as evolution/creationism and stem cell research. But there seems to be a bit of the pot calling the kettle black here, too. Just as not every conservative eschews science, nor does every liberal buy in to the environmental policies championed by Gore and his cronies.

I would repost this, but the nearest book is on my computer and I don't know how to randomly "pick up" one of those... Other than that, there is one on my nightstand and 55 in my purse. And the two that I'm reading, I believe you've already read. So due to complications beyond my control, I'm going to skip this meme. ;)
