Maybe it's because Kate's anticipating the inevitable snow dump that's about to happen or because she hasn't received any emotionally draining presents, but whatever it is, it's a good day. Sam's with his grandparents and she's got a plan. She wants to go climbing up to the cliff over the ocean. Charlie's about to give birth

Not long up, Baze is just pulling on a t-shirt when he opens the door, squinting in the light, hair standing up. When he sees Kate, he lights up, broad grin spreading across his face.

"Hey, Kate," he says, leaning one shoulder against the doorframe. "What can I do for you?"

"You look like a frat boy after a bender," she says with a grin. "And I've decided to go a day without being super depressing. Want to go for a hike?"

"Firstly, I was never a fratboy. Secondly, no bender. Thirdly, I've got a teenager living with me, so shame on you." He arches an eyebrow. "Gimme a moment to let Lux know and find my boots."

"She's welcome to come," she says a little more softly, figuring Lux wouldn't want some stranger to be talking about her. "Or if you feel like you should stay with her..."
