I love this. Just love it :))

I've been writing a lot in and around POTW myself lately, so am pretty much immersed in the episode - that makes character studies like this so much more rewarding to read. And I love the comparison you draw between Four and Nine here - the way he couldn't do this in either incarnation, whatever the gain from doing so.

Question, though: if he couldn't do it then and can't do it now, how come he did it in his eighth incarnation, to end - as he then thought - the Time War?

And I love that final line. :))

Thanks so much! I'm glad you enjoyed it.

My impression re: the Time War is that it was literally a matter of "all creation" hanging in the balance. I'd think that sacrifice would be much easier to make, as it ensures that life does go on somewhere, for someone, than wiping out one species because it's threatening one planet. But that's just speculation, really. I can't remember now where I heard the "all creation" thing, alas. :-\

That was wonderful! Especially all of the old-skool references and the way you interweave your comparison between Four and Nine. Perfect. Absolutely perfect. *applauds*

*bows* Thank you! I've never been able to watch "Parting" without thinking back to "Genesis"--it's just inconceivable to me that, at that moment, he's not on some level wondering about the decision he made then. And this prompt was the perfect thing to bring it all together. I'm glad you enjoyed it.
