Thanks guys. Please excuse the Paul Newman gushing BTW
When I actually think of Henry Gondorff 15 years before The Sting, I think of him as Paul Newman in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof or The Long Hot Summer. I do love Redford, but Newman was so incredibly beautiful as a young man, that I can imagine after seeing all the fat confidence men at the brothel, seeing Henry would have made her all mushy with desire.
In this particular story, I wanted to create a little sexual confusion within Henry. He can't find himself attracted to women, but when Hooker comes along, he finds himself very much drawn to him.

I always felt that the scene with Henry and Billie in bed at the end of "The Sting" seemed like an add on.It didn't feel real in the context of the rest of the movie. Seeing that scene as explained by your story it makes sense. Henry was her friend, and he paid her kindness back with sex. And he probably did need some companionship sometimes and would turn to her for that(not realizing what his real desires were).
